Mogilyov
Mogilyov is one of six regional centers of Belarus. It is located on the south-east of Belarus, on the banks of the famous river Dnieper. Mogilyov was founded in 13 century and in its history, managed be a part of the Kievan Rus, the vassal of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the provincial center of the Russian Empire.
Today Mogilyov is a large industrial, cultural and business center with almost 400 thousandth population. Unfortunately, he did not won the laurels in the field of tourism and does not hit to the «gold reserve» of Belarusian history, as Nesvizh or Grodno. However, here visitors also will find a lot of interesting things.
The main tourist attraction of Mogilyov is the ruins of the castle, which protected the city from the attacks of the invaders, both from the West and the East. Today, the few survived parts of the tower and wall are probably the only witnesses of the first centuries of life of Mogilev.
Despite ongoing wars, as well as actions for destroying the history of the town during the time of the Russian Empire and the USSR, in Mogilev a number of religious buildings managed to preserve, among which the most famous are Nicholas Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church of St. Stanislaus.
Mogilyov itself today leaves a pleasant impression. Despite the abundance of Soviet and post-Soviet Constructivism, it is cozy and friendly. The banks of the Dnieper River, which recently remained half-savage today are becoming more civilized. This is mainly due to the fact that Mogilyov in the near future plans to make itself one of the major cities for sending and receiving of river cruise ships. The cruises along the Dnieper river and cruises in general today is the subject that is very topical in Belarus.
So it is possible that after a few years Mogilyov will become popular not only among the transit passengers, but also for connoisseurs of the river tourism.
