U.S. warns American travelers about the threat of terrorism
(European news)
The U.S. Department of State has published the official information and warning to the U.S. citizens about the threat of massive terrorist attacks in Europe.
Information about upcoming terrorist attacks was published on the website of the U.S. State Department on October 3 and is strongly warning U.S. citizens traveling to Europe about the possibility of mass terrorist attacks.
According to the information published on the U.S. State Department web site, terrorist organization №1 in the world Al-Qaeda, created with the active involvement of U.S. intelligence in the early 80's (“Operation Cyclone”), plans to make a series of terrorist attacks in Europe. According to the U.S. analysts, the choice of terrorists could fall to a variety of targets in Europe, including private and official objects. It is also assumed that Al-Qaeda’s terrorists may use a variety of means to achieve terrorist goals and different kinds of weapons.
Intelligence services believe that Al-Qaeda may be planning attacks similar to the scenario of terrorist acts in India's Mumbai in 2008, where the explosions in the most popular tourist destinations and luxury hotels killed 166 people.
Warning of the U.S. State Department provides information on the most probable targets of the upcoming terrorist attacks, including metro, rail, air and sea transport, as well as other tourist infrastructure.
Americans traveling to the Old World are advised to refrain from visiting the most popular tourist attractions and places of mass gathering and to take all measures to ensure their own safety. Also, American travelers are urged to register a trip to Europe at the Consular Section of the US Embassy.
In connection with the announced warning, the UK authorities also informed their citizens and altered the level of the terrorist threat to the maximum. This measure means that the actual risk of terrorist attacks is extremely high.
The information announced by the State Department affirms that the threat of terrorist attacks in Europe will expire on January 31, 2011.
