Slovenian airline closes flights
(News from Slovenia)
Adria Airways, the largest Slovenian airline, a member of the Star Alliance of airlines, forced to close a number of popular flights. Among the flights, which Adria Airways stops serving at the end of October are flights from Ljubljana to one of the major London airports Gatwick, as well as flights from the capital of Slovenia to Paris, Toulon and Warsaw.
Adria Airways is a state owned company, which with the onset of the global financial crisis faced several challenges in ensuring the regular operation of its fleet. In order to save Adria Airways state creditors of the company developed a plan that includes limitation of a number of the company’s flights.
In addition to the Western European directions, Adria Airways was also forced to stop flights to the city of Banja Luka in Bosnia. It should be noted that this flight was introduced by the Adria Airways only last year.
Anyway, the last flight of the Slovenian airline from the Gatwick airport will be occurred on October 31. After the closure of this flight the capital Ljubljana will be connected with London only by the route from the Easyjet low-cost carrier. At the same time, tourists will be able to get from Slovenia to London from the airport of Maribor, the second largest city in the country. This direction will be served by the British unit of the Golden Air airline.
After the closure of five flights Adria Airways will continue to serve 163 flights to 15 directions. Thus, the airline will retain flights to Moscow. In addition, this winter Adria Airways aircrafts will be able to maintain air service to Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Brussels, Belgrade, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Pristina, Tirana, Sarajevo, Podgorica and Copenhagen.
Adria Airways is the airline with almost the most modern fleet in the Balkans. The company’s flights are served by 13 aircrafts. Anyway, company is still unable to effectively cope with the consequences of the crisis. In 2010 total losses of the Adria Airways exceeded 63 million Euros.
