Bulgaria: the government leases beaches

(News from Bulgaria)

Proposals for privates to lease public beaches have recently appeared on the website of the Ministry of Regional Development of Bulgaria. The beaches can be rented for five years with annual payments not later than the fifteenth of February. According to the experts, such decision will attract a large number of investments (as tenants not only pay money for the territory, but also develop it), which in turn may have a positive impact on the entire travel industry, which experiences hard times.

Beaches, which were put up for auction, are located in different parts of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Therefore location, popularity and features significantly influence the price. For example, Mechata Dupka beach with the area of 3024 m2 located in the village of Lozenets (Tsarevo community), is estimated only at 840 Euros per year, or about 1650 levs. This beach is famous for its clean water and underwater fishing and is ideal for family vacations.

The beach near the Obzor Beach Resort hotel located in the Nesebar community with the area of 73 188 m2 has a developed infrastructure and the estimated price starts at 50 000 Euros (97 980 levs). Thus, despite the big amount several firms were interested in it even before the auction. Some other beaches will be sold on the northern Black Sea coast in Kamchia North and Romantika with annual payment of 40,000 Euros (78,140 levs) and 9500 Euros (18 658 levs). Coastal area Pasha Dere in the Varna community can be rented for 5200 Euros (10 133 levs). Several beaches are offered in the Burgas region and are estimated at 3900 Euros.
