Tajikistan is one of the remarkable countries of Central Asia. The highest severe peaks of the Pamir are replaced here by the subtropical climate, beautiful valleys with crystal rivers by the white gold of cotton fields, high-altitude desert plateaus by the fertile vineyards.
Tajikistan has one of the most ancient history and culture. In the mountains of Tajikistan are discovered the remains of Mesolithic and Neolithic ages (X-III century BC) and Bronze Age monuments. The ancestors of today's Tajiks populated such legendary states in Central Asia as Bactria and Sogd, which during its existence had been both an independent political entity and a part of the Persian Ahemenid Empire, the state of Alexander the Great, the Arab Caliphate and of the Samanid state, extended from the Indus to the Volga.
Among the most interesting tourist destinations in Tajikistan there are such cities as Penjikent, Gissar, Kulyab (2700 years), Kanibadam, Istaravshan or Ura-Tube (2500 years), Khujand (former Leninabad). Thanks to the preserved ancient architectural monuments like castles, Buddhist temples, Islamic mosques the cities are still keeping the seal of the past.
Tajikistan is the most mountainous country of the former Soviet Union and is of great interest among the climbers. There are the highest peaks of the Pamir, such as the Peak Somoni (the peak of Communism) - 7495 meters, the peak Korzenevskaya - 7105 meters and the world's largest glacier of lowland type Fedchenko glacier. In Tajikistan there is the most highland city of the former USSR the city Murgab (more than 3500 meters above sea level).
A special place in the list of attractions of Tajikistan took the magnificent nature of the Pamir: legendary emerald lakes of the Fan mountains, unspoiled natural harmony of the national parks, the richest collection of plants of botanical gardens, healing power of hot springs and much more that you have to see with your own eyes.
