From November 20 to November 22 this year in Wales Center for International Affairs in Cardiff (UK), as well as from November 26 to December 8, in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London will be held an exclusive photo exhibition of Baltic Photographers "The Baltic Way".
This cultural event is dedicated to the unique action undertaken by the Baltic countries on August 23, 1989 - "The Baltic Way". The exhibition will present to the visitors 40 photos of Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian photographers. Unique photos were taken at a crucial historical moment, when nearly two million people from the Baltic republics joined hands in a common desire for independence. Hand in hand, live people chain of "The Baltic Way" stretched for 600 miles to сonnect the three Baltic capitals - Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, becoming the largest human chain ever created in the world.
The "Baltic Way" action was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and is a unique symbol of overcoming the consequences of World War II and to overcome the totalitarian regime. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed on 23 August 1939 on the direct orders of Stalin and Hitler and contained secret clauses on the division of spheres of influence in Europe, exerting a tremendous influence on the destiny of not only the occupied Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, but also other European countries.
Today, 20 years after the action "The Baltic Way" the unique documentary photos show a live chain of people fighting for their rights and freedoms have become part of the program for the conservation and dissemination of valuable archives and collections - Memory of the World.
