Peter and Paul fortress on Hare Island is a real stronghold and a historical centre of St. Petersburg. Fortress was founded by Peter I on 16 (27) May 1703 and was originally called Zanht-Peter-Burh. The fortress consists of many famous historical buildings, grouped around the main center - the magnificent Peter and Paul Cathedral, a three-tiered tower of which, crowned with a golden spire and flying angel, is now a constant symbol of the city on the Neva. In addition to Peter and Paul Cathedral the Museum of St. Petersburg's history also includes the princely burial place, a complex of Saint-Petersburg Mint, the Guardroom, the Shoes House, Engineering House, the Kavalier, the Treasury, the Coach, the Commandant's house, the Kronverk, the Prosecutor’s house and the prison of Trubetskoy bastion. Curious fact is the existence of a prototype of the Peter and Paul Fortress – the Novodvinsk fortress, which was also built by Peter few years earlier on the island Lynskey, near Arkhangelsk.
4. Krkonoše, Czech Republic. 3 370 000 visitors annually.
Giant Mountains in the National Reserve Krkonoše are the highest, the most beautiful and most visited in the Czech Republic. Although they are not among the major European mountain ranges and do not have a significant height (the highest point is Mount Snowball, 1602m) as the Alps or the High Tatras, Giant Mountains is a real Mecca of active leisure in Czech Republic and Poland. In winter Krkonoše become a real paradise for lovers of skiing. There are the famous ski resorts such as Spindleruv Mlyn, Janske Lazne, Harrachov, Pec pod Sněžkou. In summer the region attracts travelers with its striking natural contrasts and alpine terrain of the mountains. In 2007, the National Park Krkonoše was recorded in the list of UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserves.
