The leader of the entire industry of Soligorsk and the whole Belarus, Belaruskali company, resumed transshipment of goods through the "Calia parks" terminal of the Latvian port of Ventspils. Belaruskali returned to the port of Ventspils after a year's break. The agreement to resume shipments through Ventspils was signed by the parties on Dec. 28, 2009.
The resumption of shipments of potash, the basic product of the company, through the Latvian port made possible the agreement concluded between Belarus and China for supplying of 1.2 million tons of fertilizers during 2010.
In 2009 Belaruskali did not shipped products through the port of Ventspils because of the financial crisis and the lack of contracts for the supply of fertilizers to the traditional buyers, including China. Signed at the end of last year, the agreement permitted the resumption of cooperation between Ventspils and Soligorsk.
The first supply of Belaruskali to the port of Ventspils occurred in February. To the Chinese side were shipped 68 thousand tons of fertilizers.
It is worth noting that one of the most successful period of cooperation of Belaruskali and the port of Ventspils had been recording until 2005, when the total volume of deliveries of Soligorsk company was about 3.8 million tons. Since 2005, the volume of transshipment of Belaruskali through the Latvian port began to decline. In 2008, shipments through Ventspils have decreased significantly - up to 1.39 million tons.
Apart from Ventspils in the shipment of Belaruskali fertilizers also cooperates another port on the Baltic Sea - Klasco in Klaipeda. This practice allows Belaruskali to create an advantageous competitive environment. Today Klaipeda is key port of Belarusian transshipment. In 2008, through Klaipeda Belaruskali has delivered in total 3.05 million tons of fertilizers. In the current year, as expected, Klaipeda will remain the main port of shipment for Belaruskali. Belaruskali plans to increase shipments through the port of Klaipeda to 3,5 million tons in 2010.
According to the January-February 2010 the main business of Soligorsk exported fertilizers for 1.1 million tons.
