From 6 to 11 September 2011 in the Croatian capital Zagreb will be held the 44th Puppet International Festival (PIF). And although such events are held in many European cities, the festival in Zagreb is the oldest and, perhaps, the most favorite for the fans of puppet theaters. During the time of its existence the festival was attended by more than 500 puppet theaters from 45 countries worldwide.
It should be noted that the festival's program is composed in such way that it is interesting for spectators of all ages, and shows are performed in both traditional and in the most avant-garde styles. Performances take place in theaters, as well as on the streets and squares of Zagreb. Detailed program can be found at the site of the event. And except the puppet shows at the festival will be held many other cultural events: international exhibition of national puppets and ethnic characters, master classes on manufacturing puppets and control techniques, photo exhibition from the past festivals and several academic conferences on the topic: "Puppets in traditional culture".
The capital and the largest city of Croatia - Zagreb - is well known for its cultural and entertainment events taking place all the year round. The city also managed to preserve a large number of architectural monuments. The most popular are: the Church of St. Mark on the Mark Square, which preserved the original interior of the XIV century. Not far from the church is located the Orshitsa Rauch - a magnificent baroque palace, which hosts the Croatian History Museum. Another museum - the museum of Contemporary Art - is located on the square of St. Catherine near the Zagreb Cathedral - a symbol of modern Zagreb. In total, the city has 20 theaters, 60 museums and art galleries and three concert halls.
