Belgrade authorities decided to fight with snow-covered streets in the old-fashioned way. Organization and homes residents, who will not clear the territories adjacent to their buildings and homes from snow, will be fined. The amount of fine will be from 5,000 to 20,000 dinars (50-200 Euros), according to siol.net.
The city administration of the capital of Serbia warns that the "snow inspectors" are going to regularly check the streets of Belgrade. Inspectors have the right to fine on the spot. In addition, in case of serious and repeated violations of clearing the territory the violators may receive the fine up to 1 million dinars.
In Belgrade building owners must clear snow not only in the nearby areas, but also rooftops, terraces, windows and other building elements. If for any reason clearing snow from the building is impossible, the owner must notify passersby about the danger of falling icicles and snow and mark the most dangerous areas.
At the beginning of this week Serbia faced heavy snowfalls. Among the most affected regions were mountainous regions of the country. In some parts of Serbia, in particular in the area of such settlements as Crna Trava and Vranje, the level of snow cover since the beginning of the week increased by 1.5 meters.
Some cities in Serbia were de-energized due to breakage of electric wires from snow. The most difficult situation was in the southern part of Serbia. In particular, in Crna Trava about 200 households were left without electricity. Some villages in the mountainous areas were left without electricity for a week or more.
However, as noted by the Ministry of Emergency of Serbia, the key national roads are now rapidly cleared. Thus, the route to the Kopaonik ski resort is currently available for cars thanks to the coordinated actions of municipal services.
