In the coming days in the town of Liberec will begin the biggest sporting event of 2009 in the Czech Republic , FIS Nordic Skiing World Championships.
The World Nordic Skiing Championship takes place every two years, but this year for the first time such an important sporting event will be held in the Czech Republic. The unique for the Czech Republic event promises to be not only the most important sporting event in the modern history of the country, but also the biggest television event of the year. According to the forecasts of the Czech television experts more than 3 750 minutes of the major events of the championship are expected to be covered.
The First Czech World Nordic Skiing Championship will be marked by an important event in the world of skiing: for the first time at the ski- jumps of the World Cup women will compete. To witness an extreme sport innovation you should visit the jumps at the foot of the Mount Eshted, on 20 February. The main competition in ski jumping will be held on 27 February, team competitions will be held on February 28.
Among the main pretenders for the title of Ski jumping champion are such stars as the last year's champion Thomas Morgenstern, the legendary Polish athlete Adam Malysz and the the Continental Cup winner, Ulrika Grässler.
The competitions in cross-country skiing will be held at the new tracks in Vesetse. The competitions will begin with the opening of the festival and the final tournament in sprint, relay and marathon both for men and women will be held from February 24 until the closure of the championship on March 1.
The opening of the World Championship will be held on 18 February. The cost of the tickets for the opening ceremony ranges from 300 to 750 Czech korunas. The tickets for the finals are from 250 to 1500 Czech korunas.
