The leading British consulting company SKYTRAX involved in the research of the world aviation industry published a list of airlines prize-winners of the «World Airline Awards 2009». In time of global financial crisis one of the most curious was the nomination «The best budget airline of the world».

The Skytrax company is a leader in the market of the research of world-wide trends in the aviation industry since 1989. Established by Skytrax award, internationally recognized World Airline Awards, today is the most prestigious and most objective award in the world of the airline market.

Independent studies conducted by Skytrax for the identification of the best budget airline, is a valid assessment of satisfaction of passengers. To determine the current leader from August 2008 to March 2009 a study was conducted with the participation of 4 705 617 passengers of 97 nationalities worldwide.

The world's leading budget airline in the world has become the airline Air Asia, doubly strengthened its position, becoming also the leader in the category «the choice of travelers». The second place is occupied by the German airline Air Berlin, rose from the 4th place in the last year. Third place is hold by the British budget airline easyJet. The fourth and fifth places were taken respectively by Jetstar Airways and Virgin Blue.

The best budget airline in Europe has become the airline Air Berlin, which has also became the best airline in Central Europe. EasyJet and Norwegian took second and third places in the ranking of budget airlines in Europe, respectively.
