Holidays in Croatia mean not only the Adriatic coast resorts of Dalmatia and Istria. It is also well-known islands of Croatia, such as Brac, Var and others. In order to give an additional incentive for tourist interest to the Croatian island authorities make large-scale investments in local infrastructure.
So, in 2010, in total for improvement of tourist infrastructure Croatian government spent 178 million euros. From this amount about 50 million euros were granted in the form of loans.
According to the edition Croatian Times, quoting Secretary of State for the development of islands, during the past 8 years have been signed and implemented 976 contracts for construction and reconstruction of tourist infrastructure of the islands.
Anyway, development of tourism on the islands for Croatia continues to be relevant today. At least one hundred new projects are planned for the next 4 years. Specifically for them Croatia intends to obtain a loan from the European Investment Bank.
Islands of Croatia are situated along the sea coast. The largest of them is the island of Krk and Cres near the Istria coast and Brac near the coast of Dalmatia. In total, in Croatia there are more than 1000 islands, 47 of them are inhabited.
Croatian Archipelago is the largest array of Mediterranean islands after the Greek archipelago.
Many of the Croatian islands were inhabited since 3000 BC. One of the oldest inhabited islands of the country is Hvar.
To date architecture of small towns on the islands, lighthouses, opportunities for sailing and beaches are the basis of popularity of the island holidays in Croatia.
