Lezhë: Hotels and accommodations

Nature

The Kune–Vain–Tale area is part of a managed protected area in protection category IV and encompasses the wetland system of the lower Drin Delta. The municipality combines central highlands with western lowlands, fields and wetlands; it also includes mountains more than 1,000 metres high.

The Kune-Vain Lagoon lies near the mouth of the Drin, about 8 kilometres from Lezha, and encompasses lagoons, forests, marshes, islands and wild beaches. It provides a habitat for more than 200 species of waterbirds, including flamingos and Dalmatian pelicans. At its entrance, there are telescopes as well as day tours focused on outdoor experiences, environmental education and exploring the fauna.

Coast

Rana e Hedhun is a natural monument formed by sand dunes. The largest dune reaches up to 80 metres on the slope. Rana e Hedhun also offers hiking and dune climbing as activities; its dune landscape provides a backdrop for photography.

Tale Beach is located 7 kilometres from the SH1-E762 road and has road access as well as facilities for visitors.

Shëngjin Beach offers swimming, water sports, coastal walks and fishing activities. The beach is connected to resorts, restaurants serving traditional cuisine and a harbour.

Culture and history

Lezha Castle stands on a 186-metre-high hill and is part of the ancient city of Lissus. The castle offers panoramic views over the city, the Drin Valley and the Adriatic Sea. Its architecture reflects Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman influences.

The church was converted into the Skanderbeg Burial Site Memorial in 1981. The Skanderbeg Memorial marks the site of the Assembly of Lezha in 1444 and stands above the ruins of the Church of Saint Nicholas, where Skanderbeg was buried.

The 13th-century Church of Saint Euphemia is a pilgrimage site for believers from Lezhë and the surrounding areas.

The At Gjergj Fishta Memorial comprises 12 pilgrimage sites and an art centre with exhibitions, artist residencies and sessions for creative work. The At Gjergj Fishta Museum House preserves personal belongings, manuscripts and documents relating to his life and work.

Cuisine

Traditional local cuisine includes seafood and grilled meat. Kallmet wine is made from the native Albanian Kallmet grape; the area has a centuries-old tradition of cultivating indigenous grape varieties.
