Pukë amid mountain nature and cultural heritage

Pukë has more than 2,000 years of history and culture. The town is located in a predominantly mountainous area with significant natural assets and panoramic landscapes. The area includes dense forests, alpine pastures, lakes and water springs. Pukë is connected by road to Shkodra and northern Albania.

Landscape and bodies of water

Mount Murga is 12 kilometres from Pukë and offers views of Lake Koman and the surrounding landscape. Lake Puka is very close to the town and is suitable for walks. Mount Munella features beech and pine forests as well as alpine pastures. A few kilometres from Pukë lies the Kryeziu Waterfall, which is fed by mountain springs.

Kaurri Cave is designated as a natural monument with geomorphological, speleological and aesthetic values. There is also a typical karst cave that is 110 metres long and contains stalactites and stalagmites.

Trails and experiences

A two-day tour through the Pukë and Fushë-Arrëz area combines alpine nature, walks in nature, panoramic landscapes and the rural heritage of northern Albania. In Pukë, visitors can enjoy walks in nature and explore mountain trails.

The ascent of Mount Murga is considered not difficult and is also described as suitable for visitors with little mountaineering experience. Mount Munella is explored by many tourists through hiking and camping. Visitors often have picnics and go for walks around the Kryeziu Waterfall.

The Cave of Hours is difficult to explore because it is deep and requires special equipment.

Culture

The Abbey of Saint Paul is a monument of cultural and religious heritage built in the Middle Ages in the area of Puka Municipality. The Migjen Museum is dedicated to the life and work of a poet. Original manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings of the poet are on display there.

Kaur Cave, also known as the Cave of the Monks, is located near the village of Lëvrushk on Mount Kollata.

Regional cuisine

Traditional Pukë cuisine includes flinë with noodles and fresh butter. Puka beer is produced by hand using pure mountain water and traditional recipes. Organic products such as honey, mountain tea, forest fruits, jams and fruit juices are available in the Pukë area.
