Ashmyany combines urban history with distinctive religious buildings. The Ashmyany F.K. Bahushevich Local History Museum is housed in a reconstructed historic building dating from the mid-19th century. Its exhibition comprises four halls dedicated to the nature, history, and culture of the Ashmyany region.
The Holy Resurrection Church stands in the historic center as a cross-shaped brick building. Its construction was completed in 1883; today, it is considered an architectural monument in the pseudo-Russian style. Also located in the center of Ashmyany, the Church of St. Michael the Archangel dominates the city’s architectural landscape. Its towers have become a symbol of the city and a landmark for many travelers.
The former synagogue in Ashmyany is also part of the city’s historic religious architecture. It was built in the Classical style and features only limited decorative and sculptural ornamentation. The synagogue in Ashmyany has also preserved a large part of its original interior.
History
The Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ashmyany was closed during Soviet rule and later fell into ruin. The original Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built after 1872 using materials from the dissolved Dominican church. It was a Classical-style building with a rectangular floor plan and a portico with four columns.
The ruins of the Franciscan monastery are located in Stara Oshmyana. The oldest surviving parts are Gothic remains of a church probably built in the late 15th or early 16th century.

Juozapinė Hill, Aukštasis kalnas, and Gora Lysaya are named hills in the wider surrounding region of Oshmyany.
Routes through Ashmyany
The “City over the Oshmyanka River” excursion begins in Ashmyany’s central square, from which the city’s main streets radiated. The “Treasures of Ashmyany Land” route leads from Baruny via Holshany to Oshmyany and ends there.
