Chrost: Hotels and accommodations

Chrost is traversed by the Sha River. In Borisov District, the Berezina is considered the main river; the Sha is one of its tributaries. Below the canalized upper 12.5 kilometers, its course is highly winding and 6 to 12 meters wide. The Sha has steep, sometimes abrupt banks and freezes over in mid to late December.

Water

A described paddling section of the Sha runs through Chrost. About 600 meters before the village, there is a bridge; another bridge is located 2.3 kilometers farther on, in the village itself. Directly downstream from Chrost, on the right bank, there is a popular rest area with a shelter, a large fire pit with benches, a jetty, and a small beach.

On the Sha, about 100 meters beyond the road bridge, there is an old, dilapidated reinforced-concrete bridge that has sunk into the water. Its slabs block passage; caution is required when water levels fluctuate.

Culture

The ceramicist Sergei Kakshinsky was born in Chrost, spent his childhood there, and attended school there. For his ceramics, he uses red, fire-resistant, and white clays; the red clay comes from Radoshkovichi.

The grandfather of ceramicist Sergei Kakshinsky was considered an excellent carpenter, woodturner, and woodworker. He made carved window surrounds and friezes and used them to decorate his own house as well as neighboring houses; he also created a carved veranda.
