History and Culture

The Battle of Kletsk took place on August 5, 1506. A memorial cross and a commemorative stone at the site of the battle commemorate the event. The city’s museum history also dates back several decades: the first museum in Kletsk began operating in 1961 at the city’s secondary school. A separate building was constructed next to the school in 1979 for the Museum of the History of Kletchina.

Built of red brick in 1909, it is a single-story architectural monument consisting of three building sections in the eclectic style, with Art Nouveau and Neo-Gothic features, and stands on School Street. The Pokrovskaya Church in Kletsk was built of brick between 1876 and 1879, replacing a wooden church erected in 1786. It stands in the Kletsk cemetery and is considered a typical example of retrospective architecture.

The old yeshiva of Kletsk, also known as the Jewish rabbinical school, moved from Slutsk to Kletsk in 1921. The Kletsk yeshiva is located in a small single-story building on what is now Gagarin Street. The Dominican Monastery in Kletsk was founded in 1683. The former church of the Dominican Monastery now serves as the Church of the Resurrection of Christ of the Belarusian Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate.
