The Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War preserves, researches, and presents documentary and material evidence of the heroism and sacrifices of the Belarusian people during the war. The National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus is the country's largest repository of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and contains more than 400,000 exhibits. Its collections include archaeological finds, Slutsk belts, old documents, weapons, and treasures.
Minsk City Hall was restored from 2002 to 2004 at the location and in the form remembered by the city in the mid-19th century. It has been open to the public since 2012 and continues to serve administrative functions. Minsk City Hall features two long-term exhibition projects: “Minsk in the historical space. Cartographic cabinet” and “Minsk among friends. Twin cities of the capital of Belarus”.
Cityscape
Trinity Suburb is a picturesque old quarter on the banks of the Svislach River in the centre of Minsk. Its cosy streets and houses with tiled roofs in delicate shades have become a kind of symbol of Minsk.
A walk of around 500 metres, taking about an hour, connects Zybitskaya Street and Herzen Street in Minsk. It begins near Nemiga Metro Station and leads to the end of Zybitskaya Street, back via Herzen Street and onwards towards Freedom Square. Sights include a 17th-century monastery wall, trading rows, merchants' houses, the Carriage Museum in one wing of the 17th-century Bernardine Monastery, and one wing of the Bernardine Convent dating from the 1730s.
Nature and Leisure
The Minsk Zoo's collection includes exotic animals and rare representatives of the wildlife of Belarus; in total, there are more than 2,000 animals from around 400 species. The Minsk Zoo features the exhibitions “The Wonderful world of the terrarium” and “Aquarium”. There is also a petting area where visitors can stroke domestic goats, sheep, and pigs. Dinopark at the Minsk Zoo is a themed outdoor play area with 35 life-size dinosaur figures, most of which are animated.
Victory Park is located on the banks of the Svislach River and has well-maintained beaches.
