Bol is best known for Zlatni Rat: the pebble spit lies west of the town, is almost half a kilometre long, and is continuously reshaped at its tip by wind and sea currents.

Coast and Water

The waters around Zlatni Rat offer opportunities for kayaking, pedal boating, water skiing, parasailing and guided diving courses. Bol also has four surf centres offering windsurfing equipment rental, equipment storage facilities, and schools for beginners and advanced riders.

The port of Bol has a berth for yachts and serves as a stopover for excursion boats and sailors.

Nature

Trail 767 Bol begins in the centre of Bol, passes the Dominican Monastery and follows a gravel path through olive groves. The trail returns to the town along the old road, passing Zlatni Rat beach beforehand.

Trail 768 Bol – Vidova Gora – Bol runs from the centre of Bol via Zlatni Rat and Murvica to Vidova Gora and then back to Bol.

Vidova Gora is located above Bol at an elevation of 778 metres. It can be reached via an asphalt road or hiking trails and offers views of Zlatni Rat. Nearby on Brač, the Blaca Hermitage serves as a museum; it can be reached via hiking trails through rocky terrain and olive groves.

Culture

The Dominican Monastery in Bol was founded in the 15th century and served as an important spiritual and cultural centre of Brač for centuries. The Dominican Monastery Museum displays amphorae from the Adriatic and archaeological finds, Venetian works of art, liturgical objects and Glagolitic books.

The Branislav Dešković Gallery is located in a 17th-century Renaissance-Baroque palace on Bol’s waterfront. It houses more than 400 modern and contemporary works, including sculptures by Ivan Rendić, Ivan Meštrović, Antun Augustinčić and Branislav Dešković.

The historic centre of Bol around the port includes a Baroque summer residence, the Loža and its church, a Renaissance-Baroque palace with an art gallery, a parish church, Kaštil, stone lanes and traditional local architecture.

Events

Bolsko lito takes place from June to October and includes the weekly Bolska litnja noć, classical concerts at the Dominican Monastery and summer exhibitions at the gallery of the Bol Cultural Centre. Bolsko Lignjadura is a traditional event in Bol that combines a competition with food and live music.

The Potočine Tennis Centre in Bol has more than 20 clay courts and a central tennis stadium and has hosted major tennis tournaments.
