Sumartin: Hotels and accommodations
Sumartin combines several beaches with a Franciscan monastery, historic sites of remembrance, and paths through olive groves and vineyards. Culture
The Franciscan monastery of Sumartin and the adjacent church form a cultural heritage complex. The monastery preserves Baroque paintings, a 17th- and 18th-century archive containing registers written in BosanĨica, and an extensive library. The present-day church was built between 1911 and 1913.
The birthplace of the fishing innovator Mario Puratić, who was born in Sumartin, is associated with the Puretic Power Block, an invention for hauling in fishing nets, and is significant to the settlement’s collective memory. In a natural cave in Lučica Bay near Sumartin lies the Lučica shrine; the Lučica Cave is a small coastal shrine between Sumartin and Selca. During the conflicts of the Second World War, it provided shelter to the residents of Sumartin.
Coast
Jezero Beach is partly a pebble beach and partly a rocky beach. It has a shower and natural shade from trees. Riva Beach in the center of Sumartin is a pebble beach with shallow, calm waters and is located near restaurants and children’s playgrounds.
Baywatch Beach in Sumartin is a pebble beach suitable for families with children. LuĨica Beach is surrounded by pine forest and is about ten minutes from the center of Sumartin. Near Sumartin, a coastal route passes several bays before reaching the semi-abandoned settlement of Rasotica.
Trails
The Via Brattia route passes through Sumartin. Hiking trails run through old olive groves and vineyards.
