Nature and beaches

Vela Lokva is protected under the Natura 2000 ecological network. The site also provides an opportunity to listen to nature and reflect on the island’s history. Tatinja is designated as Sutivan’s dog beach.

Hiking and cycling

The Via Brattia circular hiking trail is approximately 140 kilometers long, passes through Sutivan, and connects twelve cultural and historical sites on Brač. It is signposted in both directions, allowing hikers to join it from Sutivan.

The Maestral Trail begins in Sutivan on a paved road heading toward the sandy bay of Likva. It passes through pine-covered coves to Deralo Beach and then climbs inland. The Levant cycling route begins in Sutivan on a macadam road heading east. Its route follows country roads bordered by dry-stone walls and passing through a landscape with olive groves. The Tramuntana Trail begins in the center of Sutivan and leads south.

Local highlights

The tower of the former windmill belonging to the Ilić family dates from the early 19th century and is the best-preserved of the 125 grain mills that stood on Brač around 1800. Visits to the former windmill of the Ilić family are possible only by arrangement with the owners; as a coastal symbol of Sutivan, it is frequently photographed by visitors.

The catacombs of Sutivan are rare among Dalmatian cemeteries and consist of two interconnected corridors with numerous burial niches. The Church of St. Roko preserves the oldest votive ship model in the churches of the Croatian Adriatic coast. It was made and donated in 1819. The Marijanović Tower was formerly a defensive tower on the seashore and has retained its historic form after being converted into a residence.

The ancient shipwreck near Likva lies at a depth of approximately 30 meters. It was carrying stone sarcophagi and blocks from a Roman quarry on Brač. The Gustrida near Likva is a traditional example of a vernacular structure for collecting water.

Traditional cuisine

Artichokes with fava beans are described as an important traditional dish of Sutivan.
