Culture
Stari grad is a Croatian cultural monument and one of the best-preserved Gothic-Renaissance fortresses in continental Croatia. The medieval water castle-type fortification was built from the 14th century onward and now houses the Muzej Grada Đurđevca.
The Interpretacijski centar Picokijade presents local history, ethnographic heritage, natural and geographical features, and the legend of Picoki. Held annually at the end of June in Đurđevac, the traditional tourism event Picokijada commemorates the legendary defense of the town against an Ottoman attack through tradition, culture, customs, living history, and tastings of traditional food.
Throughout the year, the Muzej Grada Đurđevca hosts changing museum and gallery exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and other activities. The permanent exhibition comprises 163 works from the donation of Ivan Lacković Croata. This donation in Đurđevac consists of more than 2,000 paintings, sculptures, and posters by more than 200 authors from around 20 countries.
Nearby is Dvor Barnagor in Čepelovac, with gallery spaces and the ARS atelier Barnagor; creative activities take place there throughout the year.
Nature
Đurđevački pijesci are described as Croatia’s largest and highest deposits of aeolian sand. The part located east of Đurđevac has been a special geographic-botanical reserve since 1963.
The Posjetiteljski centar Đurđevački pijesci uses augmented-reality multimedia to explain the sandy landscape and its plant and animal diversity indoors throughout the year. The Mini zoo Hrvatska Sahara visitor attraction is located next to Stari grad and includes a group of camels as well as other animals.
Activities
Park šuma Borik is a century-old pine and acacia forest with a network of paths and a fitness trail. The uses mentioned there include walking, running, cycling, and sports training.
Stage S07 of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail connects Koprivnica and Đurđevac via an easy 50.7-kilometre asphalt route. The Đurđevački Graničari Riding Club offers sport riding, recreational riding, trail rides, and therapeutic riding with qualified instructors. Podravina Adventure offers tandem paramotor paragliding with panoramic views of Đurđevac.
