Nature and Water

Part of the Mura-Drava Regional Park extends across approximately one quarter of the Municipality of Drnje. The Drnje Municipal Plan also identifies the Gornji tok Drave as a Natura 2000 area for habitats and species, as well as a bird protection area.

Drnje is described as being located on the banks of the Gliboki stream; the Gliboki is a tributary of the Drava.

Culture and History

Drnje's cultural heritage features include the Parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and its parish house, the former saltworks, a roadside chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, the Calvary monument, and the central park. The historic core includes the parish church and parish house dating from the first half of the 19th century. The settlement also preserves a former saltworks dating from 1789 and a Military Frontier building from the 1790s.

The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is described as a building with simplified Baroque-Classical elements. It is also described as having been built in 1846, on the site of two earlier wooden churches. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on S. Pašice Street.

Kaštel Drnje is a medieval fortified site from the 16th century in Židovaroš, south of the Gliboki stream and within an old meander. Cege is an early medieval settlement site dating approximately from the 9th to the 10th century; it lies west of Drnje between the road and the Gliboki stream.

Torčec–Crkvišće is a site of medieval sacred architecture and a necropolis dating from the 14th to the 16th century. The site of the Church of St Stephen the King in Torčec includes the remains of an older chapel and an old cemetery. Torčec is described as a rural settlement with preserved traditional rural features.

Festivals and Cuisine

The annual Torčansko Ivanje bonfire festival in Torčec welcomes residents and visitors. It includes local lepinje, gulaš prepared by the Drnje Hunting Association, and an open day at the fire station in Torčec.

Drnjansko Đurđevo is described as a recurring festival in Drnje associated with the tradition of venerating Saint George; the 2024 edition was the 24th edition. Drnjansko Gulašijada is described as a traditional cooking competition held in Drnje Park.
