Culture

Križevci preserve traces of their historical division into the Upper and Lower Town. These include remnants of former city walls, visible at the end of Zakmardijeva Street and near the Church of the Holy Cross.

The Gradski muzej is located in one of the oldest preserved urban buildings in Križevci and presents permanent exhibitions on local cultural and historical development, archaeology, documents, ethnography and art. The Križevačka likovna galerija hosts temporary exhibitions. The Gradska munjara, a protected monument of industrial architecture, is also part of the town’s history.

Križevačko veliko spravišče is a recurring three-day cultural and historical festival held in mid-June since 1968. The Križevačka djevojačka straža traces its history back to July 1848. Križevački štatuti are written rules of table etiquette that have been mentioned since the 18th century.

The Križevački zdenci are historic public wells preserved at more than ten locations in the town centre and the wider central area. Reconstruction of the former synagogue in Križevci began in 2014; today, the building serves as a tourist information centre.

Things to do

The “Two Towns in One” route is two kilometres long. Križevci has a total of five recommended town walks that explore the town’s history, orchards and vineyards and lead along routes towards Kalnik.

The equestrian clubs in Križevci offer riding schools. Križevci and the surrounding area are also home to hundreds of geocaches placed in the town and the nearby countryside.

The Vinska cesta križevačkoga Prigorja runs through the wider area of the City of Križevci, offering wine and gastronomy alongside cultural and natural attractions. Nearby, the Prigorske mliječne staze connect family farms around Križevci with farm visits, activities for children and dairy product tastings.
