Culture

Legrad is home to the Church of the Holy Trinity, built between 1769 and 1784. It is a protected cultural monument; its organs and furnishings are also protected. Its late Baroque appearance earned it the local nickname “Cathedral of the Podravina”. Those wishing to book a hotel in Legrad can then continue their accommodation search.

Legradska hiĆŸa is an ethnographic collection with several hundred catalogued exhibits depicting life in Legrad in the past. The Legrad School Museum is housed in the old school building, where former teaching aids, books and old records are on display.

The Legrad Firefighting Memorial Collection documents the volunteer fire brigade founded in 1884 and includes a flag from 1899, described as one of the oldest surviving firefighting flags in Croatia. The Marija Bango Memorial Room presents the life and work of the local writer and educator and was opened to the public on 26 January 2018.

The Graffiti Ranch street art project in Legrad began in 2012. As part of artists’ gatherings, buildings and fences were decorated with colourful artworks.

Nature and surroundings

The confluence of the Mura and Drava rivers is located on the northeastern side of Legrad. The Veliki PaĆŸut special ornithological reserve is nearby. It lies within the Mura-Drava Regional Park and Croatia’s ecological network.

Halasz Csarda is a destination at the confluence of the Mura and Drava rivers, featuring SIP beach. Near Halasz Csarda there are swings, seesaws and a volleyball court installed by the Legrad environmental association.

History

Before 1710, Legrad was connected to Međimurje; a change in the course of the Drava brought the town into the Podravina region.

Cycle paths

The Drava Route cycle path connects Legrad with Pitomača along the Drava and leads to Halasz Csarda. The Drava-Bike Route also leads to Legrad and ends at the confluence of the Mura and Drava rivers near Legrad.

Leisure

Since 2009, the recurring “Ljeto na Ơoderici” programme has taken place at Ơoderica. It includes sport fishing cups, eco-canoeing, concerts and theatre.

The SHOWderica programme at Ć oderica includes beach volleyball tournaments, water games, environmental workshops and open-air cinema. The site also features an adventure park and a paintball area.

A natural heritage project in Legrad included plans to build two viewpoints at Ć oderica and acquire ten electric bicycles and a hybrid vehicle for transporting visitors.
