Culture and history

The old town of Perušić had square walls with watchtowers at three corners. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a medieval Gothic church built between the 13th and 14th centuries; during Ottoman rule, it was converted into a mosque.

The Kosinjski most is a 70-meter-long stone bridge over the Lika River connecting Gornji and Donji Kosinj. Kosinj is associated with the printing of the Misal po zakonu rimskog dvora on February 22, 1483. A connection with the settlement of a dispute dating from Roman times is recorded at Pisani kamen; it is preserved on an inscribed stone. Kaluđerovac is also associated with the production of clay pots in the 19th century.

Samograd Cave contains two flowstone bridges. It is described as illuminated and was opened to visitors in 1889. Grabovača Cave Park comprises eight caves and a pit and is the only cave park in Europe. The Lika River is a 78-kilometer-long underground river. Jela Car is a fir tree measuring 42.5 meters in height and 5.42 meters in circumference.

Activities

The Man and Karst educational trail passes three caves and a pit and is 3.5 kilometers long. In Grabovača Cave Park, it reaches a viewing platform located at an elevation of 743 meters. The Fauna educational trail is 750 meters long and provides information about protected and endangered Natura 2000 species. The Klisa educational trail begins in the center of Perušić and includes a viewing platform overlooking the old town of Perušić.
