Culture and Events

The local cultural association KUD “Fijolica” is active in Orehovica. It includes drama, folklore, and tambura sections. The children’s folklore section of KUD Fijolica operated as an extracurricular activity at Orehovica Primary School and performed Međimurje dances at a regional festival in 2019.

The tower of the parish church in Orehovica still contains three bells that were blessed in 1972. The altar and walls of the parish church were consecrated on September 23, 1972.

Orehijada 2021 began with an exhibition of old objects, as well as presentations of local products and handicrafts from local farms and associations. The walnut monument Spomenik Orehu was also unveiled in Orehovica during Orehijada. Homemade sour soup and other local products were offered during Orehijada in Orehovica, including cakes, homemade pasta, and bread.

Nine cultural associations from Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia, with more than 150 participants, took part in the International Review of Folklore Societies and Choirs in Orehovica.

Nature and Landscape

The Municipality of Orehovica encompasses approximately 380 hectares of the protected Mura–Drava Regional Park. The habitats identified as worthy of preservation include the old Jezerčica oxbow, as well as wet meadows, groves, and scrubland.

The Kalapinđa area is associated with an old mill and artificial dams built for milling. Potential use for education and tourism is included in municipal planning.
