Culture
The permanent exhibition Zrinski and Čakovec Old Town presents the history and heritage of the noble Zrinski family. It explores aristocratic daily life through topics such as education, marriage, fashion, food, and leisure. Riznica Međimurja is located in the fortification of the Zrinski Old Town in Čakovec. The exhibition interprets Međimurje’s heritage through traditions, oral narratives, knowledge, and skills. It also presents 13 protected items of intangible cultural heritage, including two inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List. Riznica Međimurja uses 3D mapping, holograms, multimedia presentations, and 4D effects to convey this heritage.
The Church of Saint Nicholas in Čakovec has Baroque furnishings. Its stained-glass windows were created by Ivo Dulčić in 1962 and Branimir Dorotić in 1989. Tennis is also part of the town’s history: the first actual tennis court in Čakovec was built there in 1926, where the club courts of Teniski klub Franjo Punčec are now located. Some players from this club became national champions.
