Batina: Hotels and Accommodation

Batina lies where Bansko brdo meets the Danube. Archaeological finds have been associated with a high loess plateau separated from the river and the surrounding Pannonian Plain by steep slopes. Batina is also the only settlement in Baranja on the Danube.

Culture and History

Batina is described as one of Europe's outstanding archaeological sites, associated with the end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age.

A large fortified settlement is located at the Gradac site.

The collection of the Archaeological Museum of Osijek mainly comprises ceramic and metal objects from the Batina–Gradac and Sredno archaeological sites.

The Batina Battle Memorial Complex includes the “Victory” monument by sculptor Antun Augustinčić, a memorial house with two exhibition rooms and a permanent museum exhibition, a memorial park, and a mass grave containing the mortal remains of 1,297 Red Army soldiers.

The furnishings of the Church of St. Valentine the Martyr preserve the stylistic unity of its interior.

Nature and Trails

The Dvije Rijeke hiking trail follows the Danube embankment to the port in Batina and is approximately 5 km long.

The Baranja Mountaineering Route is 30 km long and is described as requiring nine hours of walking.

In clear conditions, the Baranja Mountaineering Route offers views from the ridge of Bansko brdo towards Hungary, over Vojvodina including Sombor, as well as towards Osijek and Erdut.

In 2020, work was carried out to create, improve, and register hiking trail 622 between Zmajevac and Batina as part of the Baranja Mountaineering Route.

Accommodation

Takač is a holiday home in the Zeleni otok settlement in Batina on the banks of the Danube.
