Marinci: Hotels and Accommodation

Marinci is home to sacred buildings and memorial sites. The settlement lies on the Vuka River, near the D55 state road connecting Vukovar and Vinkovci. The parish church of Saint George was built in 1758 in the late Baroque style. Its bell tower was added in 1808; the iconostasis and the icons inside the church date from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Culture

The local church history also includes the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the centre of Marinci, which was built in 1855. This church, built in 1855, was destroyed in 1992 during the Croatian War. Construction of a new Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary began in 2003; it was completed on 8 September 2005 and blessed by Bishop Marin Srakić.

The Chapel of Saint Paraskeva in Marinci was built in 1926 at a site where a brick cross stood above running water. The church feast was celebrated on 8 September 2021 in the Mala Gospa filial church in Marinci.

History

The “Ranjena golubica” monument, erected in July 2003, stands in the local cemetery of Marinci. It commemorates Croatian defenders and civilians who became victims of the Croatian War. Another historical reference is the breakthrough operation that took place on 13 October 1991 along the Nuštar–Marinci–Bogdanovci–Vukovar axis.

Geographical Setting

In the wider regional surroundings of Marinci, the so-called Corn Road ran along several unpaved paths through cornfields from Vukovar’s Lužac suburb to Bogdanovci. Southwest of Vukovar, a grey chapel marks the beginning of the so-called Corn Road, which is part of the Path of Salvation.
