The Å pilja Svete Nedjelje served as a refuge and a place for rituals in prehistoric times; in the 16th century, a small hermitage was built inside it, traces of which are still clearly preserved.
The Å pilja Sv. Nedilja preserves a small church dedicated to Gospe od snjiga, a monastery, a cemetery, and a well with drinking water.
Coast and Landscape
Sveta Nedjelja is a seaside settlement with pebble beaches and offers restaurants as well as guesthouses. The village is located on the cliffs of the southern coast of the island of Hvar, below the island’s highest peak. At 626 m, Sv. Nikola is the highest peak on the island of Hvar.
Zogon is a small sandy beach with gradually increasing water depth.
Wine
Zlatan Otok is a winery in Sveta Nedjelja, surrounded by unique vineyards on the steep southern slopes of the island of Hvar. Plavac mali is the best-known grape variety grown in Sveta Nedjelja.
At Zlatan Otok Winery, wine is stored beneath the sea; another part matures in a unique cellar located 70 m underground.
Zlatan Otok has a unique underwater wine cellar with a viewing window offering a submarine view, where archive wines are stored; wine tastings can be arranged there.
Trails and Getting There
The Å pilja Sv. Nedilja can be reached from Sveta Nedilja via an approximately 30-minute walk through vineyards. A marked hiking trail leads to the summit of Sv. Nikola from several directions. A small chapel was built on the summit of Sveti Nikola in the 15th century.
Sveta Nedjelja is best reached by car. The road to Sveta Nedjelja leads from Jelsa via Pitve through a tunnel to the southern coast of Hvar.
