The official cycling route 603 Stara Ferata continues along the Parenzana towards Brkač and reaches the main road near Brkač. Below Motovun, the Parenzana follows the former narrow-gauge railway line that connected Trieste and Poreč.

Cycling routes and landscape

The designated cycling loop route 601 Veli Jože turns towards Brkač, enters a forest track before the village and follows an embankment. It runs through the Motovun area and climbs towards Brkač after sections near the Mirna River and the villages of Valenti and Sveti Bartol. It also leads to the Motovun Forest, a truffle habitat.

History and culture

Brkač was inhabited in antiquity. An ancient villa rustica in the area of present-day Brkač produced building ceramics, roof tiles and bricks. Brkač is first mentioned in historical sources in the 12th century.

The present-day Church of Saint Pancras in Brkač was built in 1942 on the site of an older church. The church preserves a Glagolitic inscription dated 1602.

Wine

Fakin is a family winery in the hamlet of Bataji and grows the Istrian grape varieties Malvasia, Teran and Muscat.
