Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Punat can continue their accommodation search afterwards. Punat lies in the sheltered bay of Puntarska draga and combines a compact coastal setting of narrow stone streets with nearby pebble beaches, vineyards, olive groves and the islet of Košljun.

Coast and Water

Marina Punat offers extensive boating infrastructure in Puntarska draga, including services for boats and, in the central harbour area, launching and hauling out smaller boats up to 5 metres long. Košljun can only be reached by sea; visitor boats depart from the shore of Punat.

From Punat, taxi boats take visitors to secluded white pebble beaches for swimming. The NAS Sailing Center in Punat offers a sailing school and daily sailboat rentals. At Punat's main beach, the Underwater Pirate Park offers a guided underwater walk for non-divers, where visitors can see marine flora, marine fauna and a pirate treasure.

Culture and History

Košljun has four museums: an archaeological museum, a sacral museum, an ethnographic museum and a natural history museum. The ethnographic museum contains objects belonging to fishermen and farmers from the island of Krk, as well as traditional costumes from all parts of the island of Krk.

The library of the Košljun monastery contains around 30,000 titles, including Ptolemy's atlas, printed in Venice in 1511 and one of three surviving copies. The Tri križi themed trail provides information about coastal karst and offers views of Puntarska draga.

Nature and Trails

Košljun has been protected as a special forest nature reserve since 1969. Along the Pastirske staze, the trail climbs from Punat towards the highest peaks of Krk, including Obzovo at 568 metres. The trails pass dry-stone walls, shepherds' shelters, rainwater cisterns, sheepfolds, karst ponds, sheep pastures and viewpoints.

A total of 540 plant species have been identified on Košljun; the island is home to an olive grove and a lush forest of holm oaks and manna ashes. The Pastirske staze area offers opportunities to encounter protected griffon vultures, as well as deer, hares, foxes, butterflies, lizards, snakes and frogs.

Regional Cuisine

The olive harvest continues to be a social event for the residents of Punat and the island of Krk. Restaurants and taverns in Punat serve Krk lamb with Šurlice, homemade Pršut, Kvarner scampi and fish prepared with Punat olive oil.
