History

The Parish Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Elizabeth is mentioned in historical records from 1323, 1412, and 1449. It is associated with legal proceedings under the Vinodol Code; its medieval structure was extended in the 19th century.

A medieval Croatian necropolis dating from the 8th to the 11th century is located in the Stranče area of Tribalj. The finds include jewellery and everyday objects. The exhibits are kept at the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral in Rijeka.

The surrounding area of Tribalj also includes Fulfinum Forum, Fulfinum Mirine, Maltempo Fortress, Biserujka, Kobiljak – vrh Veliki Kobiljak, Kanculova Glavica, and Fortičina Omisalj.

Nature

Medveđak is located in the vicinity of Tribalj. Tribaljsko jezero is a 41-hectare artificial lake near Tribalj. It was created for the Vinodol hydroelectric power plant and was later stocked with fish, including carp, catfish, pike-perch, eel, and other species.

Tribalj is associated with hang gliding, paragliding, cycling, hiking, hunting and fishing, as well as its lake landscape.

Fishing at Tribaljsko jezero is conducted on a catch-and-release basis; swimming and the use of boats are prohibited.
