ÄŒaglin: Hotels and Accommodations

Nature

In the immediate surroundings of ÄŒaglin lies Lake Sovsko, a natural lake on Mount Dilj at an elevation of 430 metres. It covers approximately 3,600 square metres and is fed by its own spring. Lake Sovsko was designated a significant landscape in 1989 and is part of the Natura 2000 ecological network; the area supports fish, amphibians, reptiles and wetland birds.

Also in the immediate surroundings, a 556-metre-long educational trail leads around the lake and includes two footbridges with resting areas. An additional educational trail leads from the lake through the forest to a meadow and connects the lake with a viewpoint. This trail is approximately 1 km long, takes about one hour to walk and features 15 explanatory information boards.

The surrounding area also includes walking trails at Lake Sovsko, a wooden viewpoint on Jezero Brdo and family picnics. The lake is known to visitors from all over Slavonia and is associated with the municipality of ÄŒaglin.

Getting Around

The Požeška Kružna Ruta passes through Čaglin. The Požeško-Slavonska Route reaches Čaglin via Vlatkovac and Kneževac.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga in ÄŒaglin was built in 1765, expanded in 1943 and elevated to a parish church in 1945. It was fully restored in 2000.

ÄŒaglin was first recorded as a possession in 1314 and as a market town in 1434. Following earlier work involving wood and stone, a sawmill was built in the 19th century.

Local Life

In the host municipality, Eko Center Latinovac organises workshops for children and young people in cooperation with primary and secondary schools. The centre also invites people to take part in its projects and workshops or to volunteer.

Dan Općine Čaglin is celebrated on 17 April; the municipal council was first constituted on this date in 1993. The programme includes a Mass with products from local associations and hunters’ stew prepared for visitors.

Geographical Location

Čaglin is located on the Slavonski Brod–Našice road and on the Nova Kapela–Pleternica–Našice railway line.
