Culture

Tin Ujević visited the family house as a child and lived there during his school years in Imotski as well as during his “hundred days in Imotski and Krivodol”. His youngest sister, Klara-Tina, was born in the family house in Krivodol. During his stays in Krivodol, Tin Ujević spent time with the Ujević family at St. Michael’s Square.

The Ujević Association organizes creative workshops for children. The Ujević Cultural and Arts Association in Krivodol holds cultural and entertainment events in summer.

Geographical Setting

Krivodol comprises six named hamlets: Bašići, Turići, Vrljičci, Lapende, Gornji Ujevići, and Donji Ujevići. Krivodol is described as a sloping valley; to the north, it is protected by Mount Šeminovac and to the southwest by Strana Hill. In the south of Krivodol, the hamlet of Lapende is described as a place with well-preserved traditional residential and agricultural architecture arranged around a central village meeting square.

History

A Roman road ran through the valley of Krivodol along the route between ancient Solin and present-day Metković; the Berinovac milestone dates from 26–27 AD. The first school in Krivodol opened on February 20, 1906, in a private house in Gornji Ujevići.

Krivodol was part of a parish founded in 1747, which was long called the “Parish of Poljica and Krivodol”. In a document dated February 15, 1686, Poljica and Krivodol are described as a significant Christian community.

Trails

At the Đirada burial mound, visitors are invited to add a stone as a sign of respect. The T7 Krivodol–Đirada route connects Đirada with the story that Tin Ujević listened to his echo on the way back from Turići. The description of the T6A Krivodol–Turići trail notes that remains of Roman roads have been preserved in some sections.
