Slivno: Hotels and accommodations

Slivno combines tangible evidence of its history with traditional crafts, regional traditions, and religious celebrations.

Culture and history

Slivno is home to the Greblje-Grebnik archaeological site, a medieval cemetery with stećci on the local Krstatice–Slivno road. A total of 32 stećci have been preserved on both sides of the road.

The Župna crkva Presvetog Trojstva was completed in 1753 after construction began in 1734. In 1861, it was expanded to its present form. The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity features an octagonal stone rose window on its façade; stećci are also visible in the church’s lower walls.

East of the parish church stands a vaulted chapel with a small altar and an open façade. It was built for masses during larger gatherings and in summer.

Kovačija Nogalo is the only remaining forge in the Imotski area and is run by the seventh consecutive generation of the Nogalo family. Agricultural and culinary tools are made there, including peke, pans, grills, and fire shovels. The original Nogalo forge, dating from 1774, has been preserved in its original form.

Landscape

Slivno lies in a broad basin bordered by hills, including the Osoje mountain range to the south. At 856 metres, Velika Kitica is Slivno’s highest point.

Local traditions

Traditional home gardens in Slivno produced raštika, garlic, onions, and some Swiss chard. In rainy summers, they also yielded local turnips and radishes.

Slivno’s black wine was an opol made from around ten white and red grape varieties. The slopes of Slivno were associated with a black wine that was known throughout the surrounding area.

Celebrations

The parish feast of the Holy Trinity in Slivno includes a mass and a procession through the village centre and around the cemetery. It attracts pilgrims from the Imotska krajina and the surrounding areas.

More than 20 participants performed at the Ganga Fest Slivno 2025, including male and female ganga singers and guslari.
