Vir: Hotels and Accommodation

Vir is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The Jadro Promenade and Jadro Beach are one kilometre long. Jadro Beach has four showers, three changing rooms and two beach bars: Maritimo on the sandy section of the beach and Na Mul on the pebbly section.

Bowa Beach Bar is located in Žitna Bay, one of the most visited beaches on the island of Vir; from there, visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the island of Pag and the Velebit Mountains.

Culture

The Church of St John the Baptist dates from the 13th or 14th century. The Romanesque sacred building has a rectangular floor plan and a semicircular apse. It served as the parish church until the present parish church of St George was built; today, the church is used as a cemetery church. The present parish church of St George was built in 1845.

The Venetian fortress of Kaštelina is located in the Kozjak area and was probably built at the beginning of the 16th century. Villa Lanterna is a historic lighthouse located in the western part of the island, in the Torovi area, and was built in 1881. It is considered the first transformed historic lighthouse and a monument of the zero category. At the archaeological site in the settlement of Smratina, there is the unique find of two churches in one: a Late Antique church from the 6th century and a medieval church from the 12th century.

Paths

The paths on Vir can be used as walking and trekking trails on the slopes of the island's highest peaks, Barbenjak and Bandira; they are criss-crossed by attractive, scenic firebreak roads. The Virski prsten is a cycling route that circles the western and northern parts of Vir; in practice, the entire island can be traversed by bicycle.

Konoba Kunjka in Vir serves fresh fish, mussels and other Mediterranean specialities. The seafood dishes are prepared from the catch of its own boats and cooked according to traditional recipes.
