Španat-Pašnik is designated as a prehistoric archaeological site. Documented finds from Španat-Pašnik include stone axes, a hammer, and the upper part of a millstone. Ceramic fragments of the Brezovljan type from the Sopot culture have also been documented at Španat-Pašnik.
Španat is home to the protected archaeological cultural heritage site of Gradište Jugovac, an earthwork fortification with a centrally elevated plateau, rampart, and moat; the moat was connected by a canal to the Jugovac stream.
On September 27, 2025, the 7th folklore showcase of the Serbian Cultural Society “Prosvjeta” Zagreb, Slatina subcommittee, took place in the newly renovated community center in Španat. The host group of SKD Prosvjeta Slatina performs traditional dances from Slavonia. The folklore showcase provided an opportunity to present traditional costumes, songs, dances, and customs.
History
Gradište Jugovac in Španat may be classified as one of the fortifications built against the Ottomans that were systematically constructed in the Sava–Drava interfluve in the second half of the 15th century and the first quarter of the 16th century.
Gradište Jugovac was probably destroyed or abandoned during the wars with the Ottomans; these conflicts reached the wider area around Gornji Miholjac and Slatina in the 1530s.

The named hill Golo Brdo is located in the immediate vicinity of Španat. The named hill Kuson is located in the vicinity of Španat, as is the named hill Mandinac. The named mountain Gočak is located in the wider regional surroundings of Španat.
Getting around
The “Slatinski krug” cycling route leads from the center of Slatina via Bakić and Gornji Miholjac through Španat toward Višnjica.
Gradište Jugovac is located in the Jugovac field, approximately 500 meters west of the Bistrica–Španat road and approximately 500 meters south of the main road from Španat; the site is overgrown with scrub and low vegetation.
The route to Gradište Jugovac leads from the main road in Španat at the crossroads first southward and then, at the junction, eastward along a farm track; those wishing to book a hotel in Španat can continue their accommodation search afterward.
