Culture
Trg pet bunara was laid out in 1574 during the sieges by the Ottoman Empire. A large drinking-water cistern with five ornate wells was built in its place; parts of an aqueduct that brought water from Lake Vrana have also been preserved.
The deconsecrated Church of St. Donatus has exceptional acoustic properties and has served for decades as a venue for festivals of Renaissance music. At the same time, it is a building of unique form and great cultural-historical and artistic significance in Zadar’s historic center. It stands on the ruins of the ancient forum and, according to tradition, was probably built at the beginning of the 9th century.
The Museum of Ancient Glass in Zadar houses more than 5,000 archaeological glass objects from antiquity, dating from the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD. The Narodni muzej Zadar offers visitors educational workshops, storytelling events, play activities, expert-guided tours, and various competitions in visual arts and literature.
Cityscape
The Sea Organ of Zadar produces its sound through the energy of the sea, particularly through waves as well as the ebb and flow of the tides. It extends for around 70 meters along the waterfront promenade and comprises 35 pipes of different lengths, diameters, and inclinations.
The Pozdrav suncu installation consists of 300 multilayered glass plates arranged in a circle and has a diameter of 22 meters. It collects solar energy during the day and converts it into electrical energy, which is used in and around the installation at night.
