Culture and History

The pilgrimage tradition to the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on Mariánská Hora was revived in 1990. After local parishioners restored a new statue of the Virgin Mary, the chapel was reconsecrated in 1995. Its history goes back further: in the 16th century, a chapel was built on Mariánská Hora for a statue of the Virgin Mary that had been found by a former local resident named Bittner.

Winter and Trails

The Mariánské schody stairs are located in the eastern part of the Mariánská Hora settlement, about 300 metres from the chapel. A simple Stations of the Cross route once ran along the stairs. Today, the Mariánské schody connect Mariánská Hora with Desná; according to tradition, there were originally 365 steps.

The Mariánská Hora ski lift is located below the mountain on the southern slope at an altitude of over 700 metres. The lift is 260 metres long and serves a slope with an elevation difference of 60 metres.

A route marked with snowshoe symbols begins at the crossroads near the Mariánské schody in Albrechtice v Jizerských horách and leads to the Protržená přehrada.

Nearby

The Protržená přehrada is located near Mariánská Hora. There is a monument to the victims of the disaster, an educational trail and information boards with detailed information; there are also twelve wooden sculptures. A footbridge connects the two banks of the river at this point.

The Protržená přehrada can be reached from Mariánská Hora: after parking there, a marked route continues for 3.7 kilometres on foot.

Landscape and Mountain Huts

The Mariánskohorské boudy are a popular destination for tourists and a shepherd settlement of the mountain-hut type found in the Krkonoše Mountains on the Mariánskohorský Ridge; it was founded in 1705.
