History and Culture

In 1495, Petr IV of Rosenberg invited the Order of Saint Francis of Paola to establish a Pauline monastery in Kuklov. The Pauline monastery, with its single-nave Church of Saint Andrew, was never completed and was abandoned around 1530.

The history of the place also includes Kuglwaid Castle. It was founded around 1357 on the site of a prehistoric fortified settlement and stood about 100 meters west of Kuklov on a rocky promontory. Some wall remains, a ditch carved into the rock, and earthworks have survived to this day.

In the film “The Valley of the Bees,” the Kuklov monastery served as the fictional Vlkov fortress.

Nature and Trails

The Brložsko nature trail is a 7.2-kilometer circular route with 16 stops. Kuklov is also a stop on the Brloh nature trail.

For cyclists, Kuklov is a junction of cycling routes No. 1090 and 1066.
