Culture

In the centre of the courtyard of the Římov pilgrimage complex stands a Loreto Chapel founded in 1648. The Baroque church of the pilgrimage complex was built between 1672 and 1697 on a central circular ground plan.

The Římov Way of the Cross comprises 25 stations. The chapels are arranged in the landscape so that they correspond to the traditional Way of the Cross in Jerusalem. The cloisters of the Římov pilgrimage complex contain 34 paintings depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. Guided tours of the pilgrimage complex, its cloisters and the Pilgrimage Museum are offered in Římov.

Landscape

The cultural landscape of the Římovsko Landscape Heritage Zone is characterised in particular by the extensive pilgrimage complex; it is considered one of the finest examples of a Baroque landscape originating from Catholic mysticism. The Římov drinking-water reservoir was built on the Malše between 1971 and 1978.

In places, the valley of the Malše flowing through Římov has a gorge-like character with rock formations. The Way of the Cross runs through the village, across fields and through the forest, as well as along the Malše. The Velešín–Roudné cycle route follows part of the Římov Way of the Cross.

Borovanský vrch and Kleť mountains are located in the vicinity of Římov. Vrbice Hill [Svatý Jan nad Malší-Sedlce] is located in the immediate vicinity of Římov, while Trosky Mountain lies in the wider regional surroundings of Římov.

Events and Museums

The “Roubenka” Museum is housed in an original wooden house dating from 1610. The Římov Spring Pilgrimage takes place from 2 to 3 May 2026, as it does every year. During the Římov Spring Pilgrimage, craft markets are planned under the linden trees by the church.
