Culture and History
Pirtó is a municipality in the Kiskunhalas District of Bács-Kiskun County. The localities of Csősztelekdűlő, Pirtóhegy and Zsombostódűlő belong to Pirtó.
Archaeological finds indicate that the area was inhabited during the Árpádian Age.
Pirtó became an independent municipality in 1947, having previously belonged to Kiskunhalas. A memorial stone commemorating the 60th anniversary of the municipality was created by József Szalai in 2007.
The place name Pirtó derives from the nearby Lake Pir-tó, which existed in the past. The lake was covered with reeds and dried up by the mid-20th century.
Geographical Context
Pirtó is located 48 kilometres southwest of Kecskemét and 10 kilometres northwest of Kiskunhalas. The neighbouring municipalities are Soltvadkert and Tázlár.

A railway line was built in the 1880s; Pirtó railway station was established in 1912.
