Culture

The Kisapostag culture takes its name from Bronze Age ceramic vessels found in the area. For travellers interested in Bronze Age culture, this provides a specific point of reference.

Geographical setting

Kisapostag is located on the right bank of the Danube in the Mezőföld region.

History

During the construction of Route 6, the remains of two Roman watchtowers were discovered in the area. The towers were built of wood in the second half of the 4th century, had tiled roofs and were surrounded by ditches.

A Roman milestone found at kilometre 75.6 of the main road indicates a distance of 51 miles from Aquincum and dates from the reign of Emperor Gordianus, in AD 239.

Kisapostag is located a few kilometres north of the area where the counties of Fejér, Bács-Kiskun and Tolna meet, and approximately six kilometres south of Dunaújváros.
