Jessik: Hotels and Accommodations

The Esik State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve was established by Government Resolution No. 43 dated January 30, 2010. It is located at the Esik Necropolis, which consists of more than 80 burial mounds, dates back to the 5th–4th centuries BCE, and lies on both banks of the Esik River near Esik.

Culture

The museum displays more than 500 artifacts from periods ranging from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. The exhibitions cover the history and culture of the Saka, the Golden Man, the archaeology of Kazakhstan, and temporary presentations. The grounds also feature original Turkic stone sculptures, as well as a burial mound that has been converted into a museum and a stone labyrinth.

The permanent exhibition of the Esik State Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum is spread across four halls. It focuses on the history and culture of the Saka, the discovery and study of the Golden Man, the archaeology of Kazakhstan, and the memorial study of Bekmukhanbet Nurmukhanbetov. In addition, the Reserve-Museum has a hall for temporary exhibitions with an exposition that is regularly updated.

History

The nearby settlement of Rahat is 5 kilometers from Esik and 3 kilometers south of the Esik Necropolis. Rahat was inhabited by various cultural groups from the Saka period until the 13th century. The settlement consists of three fortified structures extending along the foothills.

Experiences

Interactive areas of the Esik Reserve-Museum allow visitors to touch real ceramic fragments from different periods and assemble puzzles featuring the Golden Man’s headdress. Visitors can also make and take home a copy of a rock drawing.

The offerings also include a quest about the Golden Man. Participants take on the roles of a historian-researcher, a restorer, or a detective. The quest is designed for children aged eight and older as well as adults.

Nature

Esik Lake, a tourist recreation attraction in the Ile-Alatau mountain landscape, is located nearby. The activities mentioned there include walks along eco-educational trails, picnics on the lakeshore, fishing, boating, and cycling. Ile-Alatau State National Natural Park also includes Esik Lake among its tourist routes.

Getting There

The Esik Museum-Reserve stop can be recognized by visible burial mounds and a red road sign. The Reserve-Museum can be reached by minibus; access by taxi is also possible near the minibus stop. Bus route No. 225 serves the Esik Museum-Reserve.

The easiest road route to Esik Lake leads through Esik. There are signposts along the route, while seasonal road conditions apply on the final section.
