Talapker is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Teniz. Lake Teniz is listed as a local fishing water body with an area of 6,420 hectares. The Teniz–Karakamys lake system contains freshwater lakes that may become brackish during periods of low water. The lakes of Teniz and Karakamys are recognized as Internationally Important Bird Areas in the Qostanay region, while the Teniz–Karakamys wetland is designated as an area with a high diversity of waterbirds and wetland birds during breeding and migration. A belt of reeds 30 to 100 meters wide runs along Lake Teniz. Lake Karakamys lies north of Lake Teniz, and the two lakes are connected by a short canal. Lake Karakamys is listed with area figures of 204 and 1,161 hectares. Its low western and northwestern shores form marshy lagoons as a result of spring flooding.
Culture and history
The Talapker kurgan is listed as an archaeological monument of the Early Iron Age and lies 12 kilometers northeast of the village of Teniz. The Holy Spring of Cosmas and Damian is located near Borovskoye, by a lake in a pine forest. It has a fence, a cross, and a small bridge.
The grounds of the Ibray Altynsarin Mausoleum feature lighting, footpaths, landscaping, and areas for cultural and commemorative events. Visitors to the site include pilgrims, tourists, school groups, and researchers.
