By the Water
The public beaches are located on the northeastern side of the Cholpon-Ata peninsula. From the town centre, visitors can walk to the peninsula’s beaches via Chekirova Street and Presidents Park.
Culture and History
The Issyk-Kul Regional Museum is located in the centre of Cholpon-Ata and is described as one of the city’s main attractions. The Issyk-Kul State Historical-Cultural Museum-Reserve in Cholpon-Ata has a main exhibition and themed halls containing historical and archaeological artefacts as well as items from nomadic households.
The Cholpon-Ata Open-Air Petroglyph Museum is located about 3.5 km north of the main museum, in a residential and agricultural area of the town. The petroglyph site covers approximately 42 hectares of rocky terrain. A guide is usually available there to show visitors notable rock carvings.
Rukh Ordo is an open-air museum on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Cholpon-Ata. It contains 10 mini-museums and five chapels representing Islam, Catholicism, Orthodoxy, Buddhism and Judaism. Rukh Ordo’s concert hall hosts festivals, competitions and concerts.
Water Activities
The Cruise Yacht Club is located in a secluded bay on the southwestern edge of Cholpon-Ata. The club offers cruises on a converted fishing vessel, a speedboat or an international-class sailing yacht. Its offerings also include underwater excursions, fishing and diving; at the same time, the Cruise Yacht Club provides a wide range of water-based leisure services.
Events and Cuisine
Horse races and music concerts take place at the Cholpon-Ata Hippodrome in summer. Horse riding is also possible in connection with visits to the hippodrome.
Restaurants in Cholpon-Ata serve Russian, Chinese including Dungan, and Central Asian cuisine.
