Ropaži Municipality can be explored through nature, water, activity and culture. Lielie Kangari is a notable natural area: this esker ridge is the largest in Latvia and also a nature reserve, part of which lies in Ropaži Municipality. The protected area covers 1,972.4 hectares in Ropaži Municipality and the Suntaži Parish of Ogres Municipality. Lielie Kangari has been part of the Natura 2000 network since 2005.

Nature

The Tumšupes meži Nature Reserve also encompasses a variety of protected habitats. These include swamp forests, alluvial forests, undisturbed raised bogs, ancient or natural boreal forests, lichen-rich pine forests and old mixed broadleaf forests. The protected area also includes flowing waters and natural river sections.

The Lielie Kangari Nature Reserve features a 33.5-metre-high observation tower and a two-kilometre nature trail with information and exercise stations. The Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš Educational Trail is approximately two kilometres long as a round trip. Its information boards cover nature, animals and insects and also contain quotations from the writer.

The Diž-Ozolu Nature Trail passes through oak stands. Information boards focus on the trees and bee shelters; picnic and fire sites are also available along the trail. The Zaķumuiža Nature Trail is almost two kilometres long, moderately difficult and suitable for walking with a stroller, cycling and cross-country skiing in winter. It runs through an old manor park with hundred-year-old trees, as well as a variety of plants, insects and birds.

Water and Active Attractions

At Lake Ulbroka, an approximately one-kilometre walking and adventure trail leads to an observation platform on the lake, swimming areas, sports fields, outdoor exercise equipment, a skate park, and an obstacle and activity trail. The recreation area at Lake Ulbroka also includes a beach, a swimming area, volleyball and football courts, a skate park, an obstacle trail and a climbing wall.

The Saurieši Gravel Pit area comprises four bodies of water separated by roads and paths. The four bodies of water offer opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing.

At LANGHO on the shore of Lake Langstiņi, SUP boards, catamarans and boats are available for hire. No motorized vehicles operate on the lake. The LANGHO café serves sweet and savoury Belgian waffles, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

The “333” Sports Complex offers karting for professional drivers, beginners, groups and children. It also has a winter track with studded tyres. The complex additionally includes an off-road park, an inflatable water course with SUP rental, and motocross and hard enduro tracks.
